Testing for Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that causes pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. Here are the steps to test whether someone has frozen shoulder:
- Ask the person about their symptoms, including pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint.
- Perform a physical examination of the shoulder joint, looking for limited range of motion and pain when moving the arm.
- Perform the "passive external rotation test" by having the person lie on their back and lift their arm to a 90-degree angle. Then, gently rotate the arm outward. If the person experiences pain or limited range of motion, it may indicate frozen shoulder.
- Perform the "supraspinatus test" by having the person lift their arm to the side and resist as you push down on their arm. If the person experiences pain or weakness, it may indicate frozen shoulder.
If you suspect someone has frozen shoulder, it is important to seek medical attention for proper diagnosis and treatment.
